"To Find a Master in the Art"

Kazuo Ohno and G. Collin in Tokioi

Traveling to Europe allowed me in the first place to materialize my artistic project and on the other hand, it enabled me to meet my master and study with him whenever he visited that continent.

Thus, every year I had the occasion to deepen his teachings which are the base of my theatrical work.

I think that wisdom of the ancients along with the drama of existence of the man of our times in the dance of Ohno, expresses the richest message that Japanese art can donate to western dance of our days.

I would like to build a bridge between Ohno's art and my art, like his encounters with Flemish dancer Antonia Mercé and the dance of the German expressionism have represented.

Kazuo Ohno's Butoh Dance is the metaphor of a philosophy of life, that only great masters can transmit to new generations. I try to promote this artistic interchange because his poetry has meant an enrichment and an expansion.

Also, I hope that it may become an inspiration and source of research for others.

Butoh Dance allowed me to substitute stereotypes, automatization of movement and iterations which are only esthetical solutions to the problems of choreography, by changing them for the concept that "Dance is the movement of the soul that is accompanied by the body ". That is, to have a "guided improvisation" whenever we dance, to learn how to follow the organic movement of the soul and thus build the message we pass on to the spectator, the passion and feeling in an intelligent body in movement.

I feel responsible for this legacy in art that impulses me to spread this seed which Kazuo Ohno sowed in me.
