Biography Of. Yoshito Ohno 1938 Born in Tokyo. 1959 Played a role of a young boy in "Kinjiki" (Forbidden Colors) directed and choreographed by Tatsumi Hijikata."Kinjiki" is taken as the first creation of Butoh in its history. 1960-68 Participated in concerts of Hijikata's group Ankoku Butoh-ha. Studied classic ballet and pantomime with Hironobu Oikawa. 1969 Solo dance recital at Shinjuku Kosei Nenkin Kaikan. 1981 Particpated in Kazuo Ohno's tour in New York and Caracas in July to August. 1982 Particpated in Kazuo Ohno's tour in Europe in May through July. 1985 Premiered "The Dead Sea" with Kazuo Ohno at the Marion Asahi Hall in Tokyo within the Butoh Festival '85 in February. Performed in Rimini and Geneve in August and September. Performed in the Joyce theater in New York in the frame of the Mitsui Close-up of Japan. 1987 Directed and performed "Water Lilies" with Kazuo Ohno in the World Theater Festival in Sttutgart in June. Performed "Water Lilies" in the Ginza Saison theater in the project commemorating the first anniversary of Tatsumi Hijikata's death in August. 1988 Performed "Water Lilies" in the New York Intenational Arts Festival in June. Directed and performed "Insect Metamorphosis" with Kazuo Ohno in the Tokyo International Theater Festival in August. 1989 In March, gave a solo dance performance at the Cultural Institute of Japan in Rome. Participated in the IMMT Festival in Budapest, Europalia'89 in Belgium and the Cervantino Festival in Mexico with Kazuo Ohno in October. 1990 Performed "The Dead Sea" in Itami in January. Directed and performed "Ka Cho Fu Getsu"(Flowers-Birds-Wind-Moon) with Kazuo Ohno at Theater Ponchielli in Cremona of Italy. Toured Gottingen, Paris and Praha in October through November. 1991 Participated in Maureen Fleming's performance "Eros" at La Mama in New York in January. Performed "Ka Cho Fu Getsu" with Kazuo Ohno at the Ginza Saison Theater in August. Costared with Kazuo Ohno in a film "Scenary of Soul" (directed by Katsumi HIRANO). 1992 Directed and performed "A White Lotus Flower" with Kazuo Ohno in Tokyo in March. Performed "Ka Cho Fu Getsu" in Berlin in the frame of the Mitsui Close-up of Japan in April. Directed and performed "Oguri- Hangan and Terute-Hime" with Kazuo Ohno in Ogaki in November. 1993 Directed and performed "Palace Soars Across the Sky" with Kazuo Ohno in a warehouse of the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse premises in April. Participated in the Butoh Festival in Seoul in August. Toured the United States. Performed "Oguri-Hangan and Terute-Hime" with Kazuo Ohno in the Shonandai Cultural Center. 1994 Produced the Kazuo Ohno's Retrospective of his representative works since 1977 in Teatro Fonte in Yokohama and performed "Water Lilies" as its first program in April and directed Kazuo's solo piece, "Admiring La Argentina" as the 2nd in September. Participated in the Singapore Festival of Arts and the Guandu Arts Festival of Taipei in June. Toured Lisbon, Paris, Avignon and Perigueux in July through August and Holstebro(Denmark) and Warsaw in October. 1995 Performed "The Dead Sea" in Teatro Fonte as the 3rd program of the periodical retrospective in February. In March. Choreographed a dance scene of "Flirt", a film by Hal Hartley.In April directed and performed "The Road in Heaven , the Road in Earth" with Kazuo Ohno in the Keio University in Yokohama. Participated in the Art Summit Indonesia'95 and toured Padangpanjang (West Sumatra) and Jakarta in October. Directed "My Mother" as the 4th program of the Kazuo Ohno's periodical retrospective in November. 1996 Presented Kazuo Ohno's "My Mother" in New York in Febuary. Performed "The Road in Heaven, the Road in Earth" in Osaka in March. Perfromed "Ka Cho Fu Getsu" as the 5th program of the retrospective in May. Toured Quebec with Kazuo Ohno in May. |
